Although it was a much changed Welling United team, the majority of their team have played for the first team and Cray Valley PM pulled off a well deserved win.
It took them just nine minutes to go ahead. Sam Hatton brought down Aaron Rhule and Tom Youngs stepped up to send Paul Agu the wrong way.
Dean Leacock was cautioned for a foul as Welling were pinned back in the early stages and Joe Matthews should have made it two when rising unopposed, but his header flew wide.
Agu saved from Scott Riley before Welling started to come into the game.
Archie Johnson shot from the edge of the box and Jordon Carey could only block out as far as Pierre Joseph-Dubois who looked certain to score but Carey recovered to smother.
Rhule almost caught Welling out when breaking through the middle but Agu was out sharply to clear the danger.
Joey Taylor then combined well with Johnson to create an opening for Harry Crawford but Carey saved from his long shot.
Leading up to half time, Cray Valley almost made it two but Youngs’ effort smashed back off the crossbar.
Within moments, Welling equalised. A corner managed to evade all and Joseph-Dubois bundled home at the far post under a heavy challenge. Although he came back on for the last couple of minutes of the half he was replaced at the break as a precaution.
Two young Welling substitutes combined to create a chance but Kent Bannister was unable to get over Bryan Testolin’s cross and headed over.
Bannister’s shot was then deflected into the path of Dan Walker but he blasted well over from a great position.
Ali Fuseini was the next Welling player to fail to hit the target with a shot that went well over then Crawford fired high and wide.
Walker had a shot half blocked then saved by Carey before Welling paid for their profligacy by conceding twice in three minutes.
Ryan Fowler played a low defence splitting square ball to find Youngs and he smashed home gleefully.
Then Tom Fitzgerald won a tackle in midfield before firing a shot from 30 plus yards that Agu could only watch into the corner of the net.
Ben Francis fired wide after catching Hatton in possession but it didn’t matter as the Cray Valley supporters were soon celebrating a famous victory.
