Ten man Welling United were again beaten at home with Truro City claiming the points.
They had the first chance of the match when Dave Winfield met Gene Kennedy’s corner at the far post but headed wide. Zain Walker then had a shot that was blocked into the path of Anthony Grant who tried a first time volley that was well off target.
Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain hurled in a long throw for Truro’s first chance that was nodded by Tom Harrison to Tyler Harvey whose reaction header flew the wrong side of the near post.
However, midway through the first half, it was the hosts who went ahead. Although the danger from a corner appeared to have passed, Winfield kept it in and it found it’s way to Zain Walker whose drive took a huge deflection off Will Dean and flew into the back of the net.
Billy Palfrey had a good chance to equalise but Daniel Jinadu, Welling’s debut goalkeeper, made an excellent diving save before being given no chance with Truro’s equaliser. Another Oxlade-Chamberlain long throw was cleared, but launched back in to find Jaze Kabia, who had lost his marker, and he hooked it inside the far post.
Six minutes later, the visitors went ahead. Kabia crossed and Harrison rose to head Truro into the lead.
As the fourth official prepared to hoist the board to indicate the first half additional minutes, Winfield was cautioned for a foul on Kabia.
Another foul on Kabia, six minutes after the break, ended Winfield’s participation in the game when he was shown a second yellow card and was dismissed.
Shortly afterwards Ryan Law volleyed home from Kabia’s cross but was ruled offside before Welling’s Chiori Johnson tried his luck from forty yards but it had no power and was saved easily by Dan Lavercombe.
It was then Kabia’s turn to try his luck from distance. He spotted Jinadu off his line and hit a high shot from forty-five yards that was straight, but bounced over the bar.
Rod Stringer, the Welling manager, made a triple substitution with just under thirty minutes remaining and his team enjoyed a lot of possession but struggled to break down an obstinate Truro defence.
On the break, Truro had half chances and an optimistic long range shot by Oxlade-Chamberlain flew well wide before Harrison headed over.
Once more, a long throw caused Welling problem and Sam Sanders flashed a shot wide before Welling had a late chance when Lavercombe did well to smother another Johnson shot.
Stringer’s Wings are next in action in the F.A. Trophy when they host Havant and Waterlooville.
