In miserable conditions, Bromley claimed the honours at Welling in the Vanarama National North Kent derby.
They had to do it the hard way, though, as Welling came out flying and took an early lead.
After Reece Harris had twice come close, Sam Corne slung a corner to the far post for Michael Chambers to head his first Welling goal.
It took Bromley a while to get themselves into the game before they created their first chance. Anthony Cook made ground before squaring for Louis Dennis. He thought he had scored but Nortei Nortey made a miraculous goal line clearance.
Sandro Semedo came close on his Welling home debut, then George Porter lobbed wide before Sam Corne had to leave the field for treatment to a head injury.
While he was off the field of play, desperately calling to return to the action, Bromley equalised when Ali Fuseini picked his spot with a twenty yarder into the bottom corner.
Loui Fazakerley, Welling’s manager, was not happy. “Very annoying. We tried to get him onto the pitch for quite a while and they kept turning it down and they took advantage of it and scored.”
However, Mark Goldberg was more keen to praise the scorer. “The thing about Ali is that he has been working on his shooting. It was only a matter of time before his extra work at the training ground was going to pay off.”
Alex Wall had a shot saved by Tom King in the Welling goal but then had to make way to be replaced by Ugo Udoji.
Dennis tested King again just before the break, but the Welling goalkeeper claimed comfortably.
Chambers was unable to continue after the break and was replaced by Harry Osborne, but Welling again started the half well and Ricky Wellard created an opening for himself but shot wide.
On 63 minutes, Bromley scored what turned out to be the winner when Jack Holland feasted on Moses Emmanuel’s flick and fired beyond King.
Joint Welling leading goalscorers, Xavier Vidal then Sahr Kabba came on, but neither were able to make much of an impact.
Cook and Reece Prestedge were both off target for the Ravens who saw out the final 15 minutes with relative comfort as neither side created a clear cut opportunity.
Afterwards, Fazakerley couldn’t hide his disappointment. “We didn’t play very well. It was a scrappy game. I wouldn’t say they were the better team.”
Goldberg, however, saw things differently. “I think it’s fair to say that on the night, the team that deserved to win got the three points. I think we dominated most of the game.”
