John Akinde’s injury time goal ended Welling United’s undefeated home record whilst increasing Barnet’s lead to nine points at the top of the Vanarama Conference Premier.
Akinde had the first opportunity of the match but shot wide. He then turned provider when pulling back for Luisma Villa but he screwed his shot wide.
After 24 minutes, Barnet went ahead through Akinde. A half cleared corner sat up nicely for him to thrash home.
He may have added another a few minutes later but headed a deep cross over from close range.
Harry Beautyman recorded Welling’s first effort on target but his difficult volley was saved comfortably by Graham Stack.
Two minutes before the break, Welling rounded off a good spell with an equaliser. While most people in the ground expected Beautyman to take a free kick, Chris Bush struck it and Stack could only parry for Joe Healy to bundle the rebound home.
Early in the second half, Akinde broke through but Jamal Fyfield made a great saving tackle.
Another Villa shot required a low save from Benji Buchel and David Stephens headed over as Barnet looked to regain their lead, but Welling still created problems and Jake Gallagher did well to get on the end of a Jamie Day cross, but he was unable to beat Stack.
Stephens failed to hit the target with another header before Welling enjoyed their best spell of the game.
Gallagher was thwarted by a great tackle Andy Yiadom after combining well with Kieron St. Aimie then St. Aimie was denied by Stack, although a goal kick was awarded.
Substitute Jon Nouble squared for Beautyman but his attempt to place his shot was blocked.
As the game went into injury time, Stack saved from Beautyman and kicked the ball long for Akinde to break through and force his shot past Buchel.
It was tough on Welling but they now have two weeks without a game to recharge their batteries.
