Welling United 1-1 Hemel Hempstead Town

Missed chances meant that Welling United had to settle for a draw against Hemel Hempstead Town.

However they had to come back from a goal down early when former Ebbsfleet player Jordan Parkes took a free kick from wide on the left. He flung it across and deceived all as it flew in just under the bar inside the far post.

Their lead didn’t last long though. Danny Mills broke clear but couldn’t get the ball out from under his feet as he would have liked and Laurie Walker knocked it out for a corner.

Jebb delivered dangerously and it was half cleared but Brendan Kiernan spun to volley home in style.

Another delivery from Jebb almost produced a second for Kiernan but he could only prod straight at Walker at full stretch.

Bradley Goldberg was next to be thwarted when Walker made an outstanding save to keep it out of the bottom corner.

James Kaloczi had a lucky escape when heading a Jebb corner just wide of his own goal and Kiernan had a shot deflected over.

Yet another Kiernan shot was deflected wide before a dangerous Jebb cross was just out of the reach of Anthony Acheampong who threw himself at the cross,

After the block Welling continued to press and Billy Clifford made a brave block from a Mills drive.

Goldberg fired over with an optimistic effort before Thierry Audel was too high with a twenty yarder from a pass by Nassim L’Ghoul.

Mills headed over from a good cross by Craig Braham-Barrett before L’Ghoul’s free kick was saved easily.

As the game moved into the latter stages substitute Gavin McCallum drew another good save from Walker before he set up Mills who delayed his shot and allowed Walker to save.

In the closing minutes Goldberg got free but chose to shoot early rather than going round Walker and the Tudors’ goalkeeper was able to make the save.

Welling almost threw away the point they had when a goalmouth scramble gave Karl Owiyide a chance but his shot was deflected over.

There was still time for Welling to have one more goal attempt but Kiernan’s shot from a tight angle was cleared off the line by Tom Hamblin.
