Alfie Rutherford scored a first half hat-trick as Welling United were well beaten by Dorking Wanderers.
Warren Feeney went for an attacking Wings line up, but they could have gone behind in under twenty seconds. Rutherford crossed and it fell for James McShane, but he fired over.
Having escaped that, Welling went straight to the other end and Dipo Akinyemi crossed low to Tom Derry, but he went for a cute flick rather than controlling and trying to create a clear opening.
Jordan Cheadle burst forward and crossed but McShane’s header was saved by Welling goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke.
It continued to be open until Dorking went ahead. Rutherford was sent clear down the right win and eased his way in to fire just inside the far post.
Akinyemi looked for an immediate response but could not find the target when meeting an Alfie Matthews near post corner before Rutherford again broke through but was thwarted by a brilliant save by Boyce-Clarke.
He made another save shortly after. Nicky Wheeler blocked a clearance by Maxwell Statham and played a one-two with Rutherford before firing at goal, but it hit Boyce-Clarke and rebounded up onto the crossbar and out.
Derry headed a long ball into the path of Harvey Bradbury, but it did not fall kindly for him, and he was unable to keep his shot down.
Rutherford almost made the most of another friendly deflection when bursting forward and pulling back but James Sendles-White made a crucial goal-line intervention as Jason Prior moved in expecting a tap-in.
Dan Gallagher headed wide from a Darren Oldaker corner before Dorking scored again. Alfie Matthews was incorrectly flagged for offside, and the visitors made took full advantage by taking it quickly and sending Prior away. He squared and Rutherford crashed it home.
Two minutes into injury time, Rutherford completed his hat-trick and the game as a contest when he again found space and his shot squirted under the body of Boyce-Clarke.
After all the action in the first half, Dorking were happy to contain Welling and chances were few and far between. Wheeler flashed a shot over on the turn before Akinyemi shot wide of the far post.
Ben Allen shot high and wide for Welling, but their misery was completed when two substitutes combined to finish the scoring. Luke Moore delivered a corner and Davide Rodari rose to head into the top corner.
Although well beaten, Welling’s hopes of escaping the drop remain intact as a result of Billericay Town’s defeat at Chelmsford City.
