In a game of few chances, a strong Millwall side claimed a hard earned one-nil victory at Welling United.
Lions manager Neil Harris fielded five first team players including Northern Ireland international Shane Ferguson.
There was less than a minute on the clock when Welling came close. Danny Mills did really well to hold up under severe pressure and it came out to Jack Jebb who whistled one just over from twenty yards.
However, after ten minutes Millwall went ahead. Ferguson pick-pocketed his man before arrowing a drive into the bottom corner from just outside the area.
Mason Henry-Saunders fired off target for Millwall before Jebb shot wide at the other end.
Isaac Oloafe then went on a strong run for the Lions but couldn’t quite get his foot around it to curl it inside the far post.
Despite the endeavour of both sides there were no further clear-cut chances in the first half and they went in with just the one goal separating them.
Shortly after the interval Millwall substitute Michel Parker burst through but Yannis Ambroisine did enough to ease him off balance and he shot over the angle of bar and post.
Bradley Goldberg then had a half chance for Welling when he spun and shot but it swerved away from goal.
Brendan Kiernan came on, on the hour mark, having signed for Welling earlier in the day as Steve King started to make changes.
After an excellent passing move, Mills was able to get a shot away that Dave Martin fielded for the first save by either goalkeeper with seventy minutes on the clock.
Martin was then called into action again when making an excellent save from a low Kiernan drive at the expense of a corner.
No further clear cut chances came after that but both managers were happy that the game was a good preparation for their respective teams.
