Welling United 0-1 Concord Rangers

There was no fun, fun, fun for Welling United as they stumbled to a home defeat against the Beachboys of Concord Rangers.

Although Warren Feeney’s Wings dominated the first half, they created few chances before the game was turned on its head immediately after the break.

Tosan Popo crossed for Aron Pollock to volley over early on before Welling took control.

Amadou Kassarate gave Taylor Maloney an early sight of goal but his side foot effort was blocked.

Kassarate then got played in behind by Aaron Barnes however his near post shot was saved easily by Mitch Beeney. A Maloney corner was half blocked to Barnes and his cross was behind Kodi Lyons-Foster and he showed great technique to hook a mid-air volley goalwards but it was charged down by a Rangers defender.

Sam Cox squared to Stefan Payne who shot wide then a Cox shot was blocked into the path of Kassarate who blasted over from ten yards out.

Maloney crossed for Ade Azeez but a subtle lean in a challenge on him caused him to head wide.

Quentin Monville had a low shot for Concord that was saved by Roberts before the Wings missed another golden opportunity just before half time.

Chi Ezennolim’s cross was headed down by Azeez only for Maloney to fire wide from close range.

In the first minute of the second half, Welling went behind. Maloney gave away possession in midfield and Alex Hernandez took advantage by playing it forward to Mo Bettamer who fired an unstoppable shot home from twenty yards.

Immediately after that Ben Steward fired just wide before Cox dived in on a challenge and was shown a second yellow card to terminate his participation for the rest of the afternoon.

After that, Welling struggled to come to terms with the situation and Lewis Manor headed wide from a Ben Steward corner then Pollock had a free header from a free kick but he couldn’t garner any power in it and Roberts claimed.

Breaking from a Welling corner, Hernandez went on a long run and shot towards the far post but Roberts dived full length to make an excellent one handed save.

Although Welling continued to probe, they couldn’t create openings and former Bromley striker Ben Williamson shot well wide for the visitors.

Payne had a shot blocked wide by Jack Thomas in stoppage time and had one last chance in the closing moments when Beeney saved at the near post but it was too little too late as the Wings suffered another home defeat.
