Welling arrested their run of consecutive defeats with an excellent performance that deserved more than the point they won.

Multiple changes were made, for various reasons, to the team that succumbed to Dartford in midweek.

Two development squad players, Archie Johnson and Joey Taylor, were included in the sixteen players on duty for the Wings who had several absent through injury and suspension.

Despite that, they were the better side against the surprise promotion chasers.

Aristide Bassele had a shot blocked and Michael Chambers had an early chance with a header from a corner before Macclesfield were forced to make an early change with Adriano Moke replacing the limping Will Haining.

Jamie Day then came close before Andy Halls twice cleared off the line, first from Chambers, then by Charlie Penny.

Penny then shot wide and both Bassele and Harry Beautyman had efforts saved before Waide Fairhurst missed the only clear cut chance Macclesfield had in the first half.

Danny Whitaker and Alex Grant were both cautioned for nasty tackles as the visitors struggled to stem the flow of the Welling attacks but saw the first half out.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

After the break, Jonathan Henly was twice called upon to action as Macclesfield came out strongly. First he blocked a Scott Barrow close range effort, then he saved from Moke after the visitors had cut through the Welling midfield with incisive quick passes.

Jamal Fyfield enjoyed the opportunity to break forward regularly and a fine run and cross ended with a Bassele header wide, then he hit a fierce shot from out wide that was tipped over by Rhys Taylor.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Chambers then came close before Fairhurst was cautioned for an ugly tackle on Day before Whitaker missed a golden chance for the Silkmen.

Joe Healy was cautioned for kicking the ball away, an offence committed by the Silkmen in the first period regularly without censure, before Moke was booked for taking a tumble in the penalty area.FOOTBALL (WELLING HOME)

Malachi Hudson, who had come on earlier for Bassele, created the space to shoot wide of the near post before Welling almost won the game in injury time.

Beautyman swung over a corner and Chambers towering header crashed against the bar and over.
