Neither Welling United nor Dulwich Hamlet did enough to win a tight game.
One of five former Wings in the Dulwich team, Danny Mills, came closest for the visitors when hitting the bar just before half time.
However, had that gone in it would have been against the run of play and it was only in the final twenty minutes that the visitors started to create openings.
Nathan Green of Welling, a former Dulwich player, brought an excellent save out of Charlie Grainger in the opening minutes, and the goalkeeper did well to get up and across quickly to stop Aaron Cosgrave from netting from the rebound.
Ejiro Okosieme and Montel Agyemang also drew saves out of Grainger either side of Ben Dempsey’s wild shot for Dulwich.
Bromley loanee Korrey Henry then gave Richard Orlu the run around but his shot was deflected wide before he held up play superbly to allow Agyemang to join the attack but his shot flew just wide.
Sanchez Ming had a raking low shot saved by Grainger before Green started a good Welling move that ended with Henry shooting across the face of goal.
Mills’ header from Jeffrey Monkana’s cross would have been a goal against the run of play had it gone in rather than hitting the bar just before half time.
After the interval, Welling continued to look the more lively and Grainger was again called into action when saving from Anthony Cook’s free kick and once more when Cook headed Green’s cross goal-wards.
Green then came close with a shot that looked goal-bound until it swerved away at the last second before Ade Yusuff was well off target when Dulwich broke.
However, the game was turned on its head following a Dulwich double change that stretched the game.
Desperate defending kept Dulwich at bay as a goalmouth scramble ended with Mills being caught offside then Rob Swaine made a brilliant block to thwart Lewis White after he had been sent away by Dominic Vose.
A short back pass allowed Nyren Clunis to get clear but Dan Wilks came out quickly and made a brilliant tackle but it was not all one way traffic and Agyemang made space for himself but shot wide with Grainger motionless.
White had another opportunity for the visitors but shot wide before Mills had a header deflected over. Wilks was unable to hold onto the corner but recovered to dive onto the loose ball as Dulwich tried to force it home.
Christian Smith took one for the team when being cautioned for a foul on Henry but Theo Widdrington’s free kick for Welling flew over and the spoils were shared.
