On Sunday afternoon, Welling Town entertain Cobham in the F.A. Cup Extra Preliminary Round.

It’s an exciting time for Kevin Oakes’ club as, following their departure from Bayliss Avenue, Thamesmead, they spent two seasons at Dartford and Chatham. However, they have now returned to Bexley Borough, ground sharing at Phoenix Sports.

Their season started on Saturday when they hosted Rusthall in a Southern Counties East Football League Fixture. It was a hard fought match the Boots’ first competitive game in their new surroundings. Both goalkeepers made good saves and neither team could find a way past them.

Oakes knows that it will be a tough task. Last season Cobham finished in mid-table in the Combined Counties League Premier Division South and they will be looking to push on. Their player-manager is veteran midfielder, Craig Lewington, son of Crystal Palace and former England Assistant Manager, Ray Lewington. They are yet to start their campaign this term, and played their final pre-season friendly on Tuesday evening.
