In the battle of the Wellings, the hosts paid the penalty for failing to convert from the spot that would have given them a draw.
Welling Town played Welling United in a friendly that gave players from both teams minutes in their legs.
Nathan Carter, United’s goalkeeper, was first to be called into action when he made a confidence boosting save from Elyon Marshall-Katung.
At the other end Kai Druschky hit the post after good work by Aaron Cosgrave before Jack Moore made an excellent save from Roberto Ratti.
Luke Rooney fired wide for Welling and then had a goal-bound shot blocked by Dennis Abugmude.
Sanchez Ming then went on the thrilling run down the right wing and cut in but went for glory when a square pass may have been the better option. His shot was blocked and the Boots took full advantage by clearing into the area that he had vacated. Luis Montoya collected it and beat his man before crossing for Elyon Marshall-Katung to finish.
Cosgrave cut in and curled over early in the second half before it looked as though he was going to get in behind but Agbudume timed his tackle to perfection at the cost of a corner. Although that one came to nothing, they soon won another corner from which they levelled. A quick take found Rooney and his low diagonal cross was sliced home by an unfortunate Boots’ defender.
Montoya came close to restoring the hosts’ lead but his shot came back off the post before Jack Bancroft headed wide after a corner was not cleared.
Midway through the second half the Wings went ahead. A long ball from Dquame Copeland set Cosgrave away and having beaten the offside trap he lobbed the goalkeeper for a cool finish.
It might have been three for the Wings but when Kristian Precnecaj’s shot came back off the post, Louel Workneh fired over.
Carter made a good save from a long range effort before keeping out a Jessi Omezi shot with a good hold.
There were three minutes left on the clock when the Boots had a great opportunity to level. A foul by Ming was punished by the award of a penalty and inform striker Joel Thompson stepped up to take it but shot wide of Carter’s left hand post with the goalkeeper going the right way.
One last chance went the way of the visitors but Cosgrave curled wide with substitute goalkeeper Callum Griggs at full stretch.
