Chris Webster is making the move from Britcar racing into the Ginetta GT5 Challenge for the 2014 season.Matt Nicoll Jones

He will be racing with the Academy Motorsport team as the Sittingbourne based racer sets his sights on a new challenge and winning the title.

Webster who is the Managing Director of DCB (Kent Limited) is no stranger to driving a Ginetta machine, as he driving a G50 Cup car in 2012 before purchasing a G55 in 2013 which Matt Nicoll-Jones raced.

Chris WebsterWebster then bought a G40 of his own to race in the Britcar series, taking part in the Donington Park, Thruxton and Snetterton rounds of the series, as well as the Britcar 1000km at Silverstone GP with Nicoll Jones, current Ginetta GT5 Challenge Champion Oliver Basey Fisher, and James Harrison.

Speaking about his plans for the forthcoming season, Webster said; “I am really looking forward to getting the 2014 season underway – my goal is to finish 2014 within the championship top 10 and maybe get a podium finish or two along the way.”

Academy Motorsport also won the Ginetta GT5 Teams Championship title in both 2012 and 2013 and successfully ran Oliver Basey-Fisher and Will Burns to the top two spots in the overall Ginetta GT5 Challenge driver’s title in 2013.

Nicoll-Jones added; “We are really excited to see Chris progress into the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, the championship will provide him with everything required to not only progress as a driver but also an enjoyable environment to spread his wings on a competitive, affordable level playing field with us at Academy Motorsport. I consider Chris as one of my closest friends and I know the season fly by with him in our squad.”

The Ginetta GT5 Challenge offers a unique, low-cost opportunity to race in a single-make racing championship, over seven race weekends supporting the British GT package. A popular entry-level championship for many GT racers, the series boasts packed grids with close racing and an exciting weekend for motorsport fans.

For 2014, the series will once again return to Spa for an international round alongside the Swedish Ginetta Challenge series.
