Danny Webb is looking forward to getting back on track for the 2021 World Supersport Championship which gets underway at Aragon in May.
The Supersport class is ultra-competitive and Webb can’t wait to pit his wits against some of the best again in the coming campaign.
He said: “It’s a very competitive class and I learnt a lot throughout the season and towards the end of the season we wasn’t far away from the top five!”
Last season he was racing on the Wepol Racing R6 Yamaha which meant learning riding styles and circuits again, as Danny explained.
“It was the case of learning to ride a 600 again and at that level coming from road racing I got into some bad habits. And the style has changed a bit from when I was racing at that level back in 2013 so I had a lot to learn.”
That season of learning saw Webb finish 11th in the
Championship with 80 points, which he was happy about and gives him a solid
platform to build on in 2021.
He added: “ I was happy with that it would have been good to finish in the top
ten but we was a lot closer to the front at the end of the season. Now I know
what to expect going into this season
“The target is to win! But that is a big ask I think if we can finish in the
top 5 of the championship that will be a fantastic season!
“Now I have more experience and we are trying to make the bike a bit better for
this season. I also know what to expect so to me in the top five and have a few
podiums this season would be great and it’s very realistic.”
James Toseland is Danny’s team boss and he admits that he is learning a lot from his experienced leader.
He said: “I learnt a huge amount from him with riding but also to do with the mind-set to go racing and top be a champion he a brilliant friend and I will always be grateful for what he has taught me.”
Webb will now be focussing fully on circuit racing for the time being which means the end of his road racing.
He said: “No I won’t be doing any road racing at the level of world championship I need to put my full focus into this and have the best possible season I can.”
