Kent based rider Danny Webb finished eleventh in the opening race of the Moto3 season in Qatar this weekend.
Having qualified 15th on the grid and ahead of his team mate Brad Binder, he was also top of the Brits on the grid going into race day under the lights of the Losail circuit.
The Ambrogio Racing rider dropped down to 17th place in the early stages before working his way back up to the same place he qualified after four laps. Just a lap later he moved up to 13th place after a good over taking move on Frenchman Alexis Masbou.
The Suter Honda looked to be comfortable in mid table in the middle stages of the opening round of the Moto3 season. He was not quite in the same class as the front seven who battled it out from the off for the top three places on the podium.
He did go on to score good points in the season opener by virtue of the fact that he finished in 11th place just one place outside the top ten. Heading into the next round of Moto3 at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas Webb has five points.
The race was won by Luis Salom who qualified on pole position on Saturday afternoon, Maverick Vinales finished in second place on his KTM, with Alex Rins completing the podium places in third place.
Giving his reaction on finishing 11th in the opening race of the season Danny said: “The race didn’t go so badly for us. I think we need a bit more top speed but in the end I think it was a good start to the season in my first race with a new team on a new bike. Qualifying didn’t go so well yesterday, but I was more confident for the race. The best thing is that we scored some points and finished top Honda.”
The Circuit of the Americas on the 21st April hosts round two of the MotoGP season and will be a level playing field for all the riders, as it is a new circuit on the racing calendar in 2013. It is an impressive track with a 41 metre elevation change, with an incline at the end of the home straight that leads straight into a sharp left hand corner.
