Danny Webb is back racing on the world stage for 2020, as part of the World Supersport package supporting the World Superbikes.

Although the season is on pause now until May/June at the earliest, but here at Kent Sports News we have caught up with Danny to get his thoughts on being back on the world stage, the first round and his hopes for the season ahead.

He said: “It’s a dream come true if I am honest because I didn’t think I would get this kind of opportunity again.”

Danny is working with a racing legend as his team boss for 2020, with James Toseland stepping in to run the team, and he is really enjoying working with his friend already.

He added: “It’s amazing! We all have good fun as a team but it is all very serious at the same time. You can’t buy the advice he gives me and the main thing is he keeps me calm. We work well together and that is what I am pleased with.

“As we were friends before it doesn’t always mean you will work well together, but I respect him a lot and we work really well together.”

The team has been pulled together and on the grid in a short space of time which is testament to the hard work of everyone involved.

“It’s been such a busy winter getting everything sorted and we are a small team but everyone has had a part in setting the team up, but it’s not as easy as is looks.

“There is a lot too it you can’t just buy some bikes and run them. There is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes. I am really proud of the WRP team I think everyone has done an amazing job to get it set up in a short space of time.”

Phillip Island in Australia was the first round for Webb and it resulted in an excellent points finish for the man from Kent, giving his thoughts on the opening round.

He said: “I really didn’t know where we would be running. I had forgotten how fast those boys are! So I am happy to have come back with some points I think it’s a great position to start from.

“I was the most nervous I have been since I first did the TT and it was just because of the stage it was on and the opportunity I have been given by the team I didn’t and don’t want to mess anything up.

“It’s given everyone a boost and to know we can run closer to the front is a great thing. I still need to re learn a lot of things and I know we have a lot more in the tank. We just need to keep our feet on the ground and keep trying to improve.”

With the season now suspended until further notice due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Danny is keen to go racing but will keep his fitness up with training.

He added: “It’s really frustrating! All I want to do is get to the next race and keep trying to improve, but at the moment it’s not possible.

“I will just be training and trying to ride my flat track bike as much as I can. If we can get out testing we will but we will just have to see what happens with the situation.”

When he came back into the season for 2020, we asked Danny if he had set himself any targets for the campaign.

He said: “I want to win like everyone and that is the target, but I have a lot to learn again. I was just going to give everything I have on and off the track and do the best I can. “Now we know where we are the next goal is top ten and then top five hopefully by the end of the season we can be fighting for a podium.”
