Tony Watt’s permanent move to Cardiff collapsed on Friday. The Bluebirds were hit by a transfer embargo for the rest of the January window.
The embargo will impact on the Addicks’ transfer activity. Not only will Charlton miss out on a £2,000,000 transfer fee, but they will have to again pay Watt’s wages.
Watt is now due to return to The Valley next week.
Johnnie Jackson gave returning head coach, Jose Riga, a glowing reference when he spoke to the club’s site on Friday. Here’s what the skipper had to say about Riga’s first stint at the club:
“We had a real good run in under José. He came in and relegation was a real prospect and we find ourselves in a similar position now.
“He made us really, really organised. When he sets his team up he leaves no-one in any doubt about their role within the team and what he wants from you in and out of possession.
“José was very thorough on the opposition and his team talks before the games were excellent; a real motivator too. Obviously they had a good effect because we had some high pressure, important games towards the end and he sent us out there with the right mentality.
“We’ve got 20 of those games coming now because of the position we find ourselves in. Hopefully he can bring all those same qualities and have that galvanising affect again,” said Jackson.
Players and fans alike will be hoping Riga makes a similar impact this time.
