Tony Watt has returned to The Valley after picking up a groin injury in the first five minutes of Blackburn’s 2-1 defeat by Preston at Ewood Park on Saturday.
Watt joined Blackburn on loan in January, after his permanent move to Cardiff was scuppered, due to the Bluebirds being subjected to a transfer embargo.
The Addicks had agreed a fee with Rovers for the deal to be made permanent in the summer, but the move now appears to be in doubt. Blackburn manager, Paul Lambert, had this to say:
“Tony is on his way back to Charlton, that is his season over. He’s gone to see the doctors down in London, it is going to be a few months.
“He was excellent for us on and off the pitch, a good guy, a talented player and obviously we’ve lost him at a time when we’ve needed him around.
“We thank him for his efforts coming here and he’s got to go back down to Charlton.”
Watt made six Championship starts and one substitute appearances for Rovers, scoring once. He also netted against Oxford in the FA Cup.
Whilst at Ewood, the talented 22-year-old striker made his full Scottish debut, coming on as a 78th minute substitute for Ross McCormack in the 1-0 win against the Czech Republic last month.
Right now, Watt’s future is unclear.
