Mercurial striker, Tony Watt, is due back at Sparrows Lane on Tuesday, after completing his loan spell at Cardiff.
The deal was due to be made permanent, but collapsed when the Bluebirds were hit with a transfer embargo.
It was a double whammy for the Addicks, not only did they miss out on a £2,000,000 transfer fee, they will also have Watt’s wages back on the books.
Cardiff wanted to extend Watt’s loan until the end of the season, but Charlton declined the request.
The fee would have been used to help fund incoming transfers, and the removal of Watt’s wages would have helped to balance the books.
Declining the opportunity to extend the loan suggests the Addicks could have an alternative buyer.
Karlan Ahearne-Grant came on as a second half substitute for Cambridge in their goalless draw at Luton on Saturday.
Joe Pigott appeared in Charlton colours for the first time since returning from Southend earlier in the month. Pigott opened the scoring in the Under-21’s table topping clash with Millwall at Sparrows Lane on Monday afternoon.
Pigott’s 68th minute strike was cancelled out six minutes from time by John Marquis. The result stretched the unbeaten run of the Addicks’ Under-21 team to fifteen games.
