Watford v Charlton Ath Preview
Watford v Charlton Ath Preview

The last of the four holiday fixtures sees Charlton still searching for their first win. Two defeats were followed by Saturday’s draw against Derby.

Gianfranco Zola’s Watford side had a fine win at Brighton on Saturday and now occupy the last play-off spot. The Hornets have won six and lost four of their games at Vicarage Road, which will give the Addicks encouragement.

Chris Powell must do without the suspended Michael Morrison and injured top scorer, Danny Haynes. Dorian Dervite is the obvious replacement for Morrison, while Bradley Wright-Phillips may have done enough on Saturday to be reinstated to the starting line-up. Ricardo Fuller will also be pushing for a start with Rob Hulse putting pressure on Yann Kermorgant.

It will be the last game that Hulse and Manny Frimpong are available before they are scheduled to return to Queens Park Rangers and Arsenal respectively.

Powell may opt for this team:

Hamer; Solly, Cort, Dervite, Evina; Wilson, Pritchard, Stephens, Jackson; Hulse, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Sullivan, Taylor, Green, Frimpong, Kerkar, Wagstaff, Kermorgant.

Trevor Kettle of Rutland will be the referee.

This will be a difficult task for Powell’s beleaguered troops and the manager will be happy to take a point.

Young central defender, Yado Mambo, has joined League One side Shrewsbury on loan. Mambo could face Charlton team mate Leon Clarke in his first match for the Shrews.
