SCEFL Champions elect Faversham Town aren’t resting on their laurels even though they don’t play this weekend with manager Tommy Warrilow proud of what his side have achieved.

Tommy Warrilow’s side, without a League game this weekend will be training whilst VCD Athletic try to extend the League season for a few more days at least by beating Rusthall at Oakwood. Any other result but a home win and Warrilow’s side will be officially confirmed as Champions whilst not playing.

After their 2-1 win at Larkfield on Tuesday took the Lillywhites to the verge edge of a return to the Isthmian League after a two-year absence with goals from Tommie Fagg and Matt Newman securing the points that took Faversham nine points clear of VCD with a goal difference superior by twenty-one!

“We would have liked to have clinched it at home playing ourselves,” Warrilow told us, “I love all the lads at VCD – I have a lot of history down there! We want to do it for ourselves so if they do slip up on Saturday and we get it, then great.”

“It won’t mean that we have won the League because they didn’t win, it will mean that we have won the League because we have been the better side over forty-odd games.”

“To go up as Champions will be right up there in my managerial career,” the Faversham boss admitted.

“I’ve had promotions with Tonbridge, and we had that incredible escape at Cray Wanderers which is right up there too. But this is something else – not knowing the level when we came in let alone not knowing the players that are in here, we have had to adapt – we try and play nice football, but this is an unforgiving League where you couldn’t predict any results!”

“When I first took the job, someone said to me that it is one of the hardest Leagues to get out of and I do understand what they mean by that now!”

“We have always believed that we just have to sort our own team out! I try and go and see as many games as I can to learn about oppositions, but it’s the players; some of the young players it’s the first time that we have come across them!”

“Coming to the club in January last year, Deal romped it really and it was a pretty false position as all the clubs around us had games in hand and some had a false sense of security as we had to find our way and we just fell short in the play-offs. But this year, the ultimate aim has been to get out of this League and we’re nearly there!”

“Thing is last season wasn’t a bad season for me – we made the play-offs! We could have finished low down, but we made the play-offs, and it still a good thing to reach post season. In my career, I have always congratulated the other manager for getting into the play-offs as people forget that it is a great achievement!”

“To go up this year as Champions will be brilliant, and now knowing everyone at Faversham, to be part of what the chairman and board are trying to achieve down here, I just hope its start of a journey!”
