Warrilow keen to get winning

Having seen their lead cut at the top of the SCEFL Premier last week following their 4-1 reverse at VCD Athletic, Faversham Town boss Tommy Warrilow will be looking for his side to return to winning ways in the League this weekend when Hollands & Blair visit the Aquatherm.

Speaking to KSN after seeing his side secure a last eight place in the SCEFL Challenge Cup in midweek with a win over Staplehurst Monarchs, Warrilow admitted, “I just wanted to get back to winning ways Tuesday as I know the people at Staplehurst and knew that they would be up for it, but eventually I thought we wore them down; we should have put the game to bed earlier in the second half, but I thought that in the end it was a fair reflection on the game.”

“It wasn’t so much the response from Saturday, I just wanted us to get back to winning ways because I did think that we responded at VCD coming out in the second half when we were two down.”

“We came out and got a goal and could have had more before getting a lad sin-binned which took the wind out of our sails.”

“I think I got a level of response Saturday, but we didn’t get a chance to run with it. Tuesday was about building a win to get us back to the winning ways.”

At the weekend, with VCD one of three SCEFL sides in the last sixteen of the FA Vase (the others being Erith & Belvedere and Whitstable Town), Faversham will have the chance to extend their lead over VCD to eight points at the top as they look to do the double over Blair after winning 4-0 in Gillingham a couple of weeks ago.

Warrilow though is taking nothing for granted; “I think it will be different kettle of fish this time, but for us that’s all we can do now!”

“I said to the boys Tuesday, VCD is done now and with them being in the Vase, we have to make sure that we capitalise on the games that we play in to get that phycological gap as big as we possibly can and then VCD keep chalking them off, you have to say fair play to them.”

“But as long as we keep winning, we will be in control of our own destiny!”

“To have three of our sides in the last sixteen of the Vase sums up this League. I have said from day one that I can’t get my head round this League – whether it’s  supposed “lesser” side, you know that you’re going to be in for an absolute war, so it doesn’t surprise me that strange results are thrown up the way that they are in this League.”

“Rest assured, we take nothing for granted at this level as it’s a really hard League to get out of! It’s nice to have a Cup Final for the fans, but it’s the League that we must and are targeting.”
