After missing out in the SCEFL Premier Division play-offs last season, Faversham Town are looking to go one better when the new season starts at the end of July and return to the Isthmian League.
For boss Tommy Warrilow, he is starting a season in the Salters Lane hot seat for the first time after joining the Swale side mid-season, and he knows just what is required to lift the Lillywhite’s back into Step Four football.
Speaking to KSN after Faversham’s first pre-season game, Warrilow was happy with the test that Sittingbourne gave his side. “It was a really good work-out,” he told us.
“They are going to be strong this year! This is the first game back, we only had our first session last week, we have some fresh faces in and there have been some pluses today! When you lose 4-1 it is not nice, but overall, we got out of the game what we wanted and there are things that we know we will have to work on.”
“I didn’t expect the first game to be all singing and all dancing, there were frustrating times. I though we started the game well the keeper made a great save to stop us going one up and then we gave a soft goal away by trying to play out from the back. But overall, I thought, they grew into the game a lot more in the second half and we looked a bit tired and a bit leggy.”
“To lose the way we did in the play-offs was disappointing more than anything. I was really pleased with the way that we were going as going into the play-off semi thirteen games unbeaten and playing well. For me it was more pleasing that off the pitch the crowds were going up and everything was going in the right direction.
“Unfortunately, and I have no gripes, Corinthian were the better side on the night… for some reason we just did not show up! You will get games like that but of all the games to pick, we picked the semi-final. We did not lose the game itself either we were beaten on penalties, and they summed up the way we played, they were awful! I am not going to batter the lads as they put their hands up to take them.”
“We’ve made some good signings in the summer, we’ve just got to get our distances right and our shape right but that’s pre-season!”
“Of course we will have the favourites tag again this season, but I do not have a problem with that, we’ll just have to deal with it. I think we’ll get stuck with the tag even if we went up to the next league! I am not bothered – it just nice to be part of a Club that has that sort of reputation!”
