It was not a day for the faint hearted as Kent’s pre-season game with Surrey saw the players donning as many layers as possible.
The game meandered to a predictable draw given that it was played over two days, with Surrey enjoying a decent day of batting at Canterbury.
Wicketkeeper Steve Davies was to finish the day unbeaten on 103 with Arun Harinath 79 not out.
Kent had declared on their overnight position of 318 for 8 to give their bowlers some time out in the middle, but they were to pick up just three wickets on one of the coldest cricketing days in Canterbury for a very long time.
Matt Coles was to remove Jason Roy lbw for 56 as the Surrey openers looked to put on 89 for the first wicket.
James Tredwell, back from New Zealand and skippering the side was to take the two other wickets for Kent as he had Rory Burns caught by Daniel Bell-Drummond at deep midwicket for 79 with Vikram Solanki bowled for one shortly after.
It was then down to Davies and Harinath to bat out the rest of the day with the Kent attack blunted by the cold conditions and the amount of layers they had to wear.
Surrey had reached 327 for 3 at 5pm when it was decided enough was enough and it was time to get inside for a nice warm cup of tea!
Kent have one more warm up match ahead of the new season as they take on Cardiff MCCU at Canterbury in a three day game beginning on Wednesday.
