Tom Ward came away from another Bennett’s British Superbike round having claimed more points over two races securing 8th and 6th to leave him just 12 points shy of a championship podium position.
It is currently Tim Neave who is still out injured and Davey Todd who stand in Tom’s way of getting his hands on some silverware, however we still have 6 more rounds of the championship to go before now and mid October so it is still very much all to play for.
Speaking after the weekend, Ward said: “Overall taking the positives from the weekend not quite the results that we wanted or deserved as the team put out a bike that was capable of winning if not being on the podium. We were slightly on the back foot I feel as we were unable to test here prior to the event but we got the bike into a good place.
“Unfortunately we had a small technical problem in race one which pushed us back to 15th but I managed to climb back up to eighth with the ongoing problem throughout the race, which then hindered me position wise on the grid for race 2. Race 2 was a lot better after having made some changes just before the race which was a bit of a gamble as we were going in blind but made it up into 4th place up with the leaders where I sat steady.
“I was feeling really good on the bike at this point in the race but unfortunately with four laps to go the tyre had completely gone so i started to move back down the order which was a bit disappointing as even in 6th position we were still only 1 second off the top spot so we definitely had the potential, so a little frustrating.
“Overall I was really happy with the weekend and got more points on the podium so we are sitting in a good position in the championship moving onto Thruxton which I am really looking forward to.”
