Goalkeeper Joe Walsh seems set to be leaving Gillingham after being left out of Tuesday night’s squad.
The 18 year old shot stopper wasn’t named in Steve Evans’ squad, leaving The Gills without a back up keeper for the 4-1 win against Crewe at Priestfield.
Walsh seems set for a move to the Championship with a number of clubs having been tailing the talented teenager in recent weeks with QPR one of those linked with a move for the youngster.
Speaking after Tuesday night’s emphatic win, Assistant Manager Paul Raynor explained Walsh’s absence:
“It looks as though Joe Walsh will be going to pastures new.”
“We got a call at lunchtime today from the Chairman saying a fee had been agreed with two Championship clubs.”
“There has been a bit of interest in the last few weeks, but they have met the valuation.”
Rumoured figures of up to £500,000 for Walsh’s signature have been circulating, but that could depend on appearances for the club he signs for.
A replacement for Walsh will need to swiftly be lined up should he leave Priestfield this week.
Walsh has made just the eight appearances for The Gills, coming off the bench to make his one and only league appearance in the 1-0 loss to Ipswich Town back in October.
