Walsall v Charlton Ath Preview

It was announced on Friday morning that Chris Powell and Michael Morrison had won the November Manager and Player of the month awards.

The awards are richly deserved and will give the team an added boost as they journey north for the match at Walsall.

The Addicks will face Yeovil and Leyton Orient on their travels after Walsall, with home matches against Oldham and Brentford in their next five fixtures. The home game with Bury has been put back to 31 January because of the FA Cup match at Fulham. Chris Powell will be eyeing a maximum haul from these games given the current form his team is in.

Walsall currently sit in the relegation zone and have just three wins to their credit all season, with two of them coming at the Bescot. Leyton Orient were beaten 1-0 on the opening day of the season, with another 1-0 win, against Preston, their solitary other success.

The Saddlers managed to take a point from their trip to Huddersfield so they are stubborn opponents but lack a real cutting edge.

Powell will revert back to his ‘league’ side for this match and does not have too many decisions to make. Johnnie Jackson is still unavailable so Hogan Ephraim will continue on the left of midfield. Darel Russell should be fit enough to take his place alongside Danny Hollands with Danny Green completing the midfield quartet.

Andy Hughes will vie with Russell for a starting berth but as Powell favoured Russel for the game against Huddersfield, he will likely get the nod again.

Charlton may line-up like this: Hamer; Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wiggins; Green, Russell, Hollands, Ephraim; Kermorgant, Wright-Plillips.

Subs: Sullivan, Cort, Hughes, Wagstaff, Hayes.

The referee will be David Webb of County Durham.

Charlton will be hot favourites to continue their winning run and should have too much firepower for their hosts.
