The ladies’ section of Walmer & Kingsdown GC held a charity competition last Tuesday (August 14) in aid of Breast Cancer Care which raised nearly £250.
The winners were the team of Di Woolhouse, Bo Hughes and Sandy Fox, and the runners-up were Val Hockey, Marie Zaman and Myra McMenamin. Third place went to the trio of Irene Collins, Denise Bayliss and Caroline Stubbs.
McMenamin also won the “nearest the pin” competition on the 4th hole, the prize for which was donated by the family of Monica Parker in her memory.
In the men’s section the East Kent League team suffered a 4.5-0.5 defeat in their latest match away to Prince’s on Saturday (August 18).
Then on Sunday (August 19) it was a busy day of cup competitions in the men’s section.
In the Tozer Bowl, for players with handicaps from 0-9, victory went to Brian Wickings with a nett 72. Paul Cornelius was runner-up on countback from Tony Coleman after both players recorded nett 73s.
In the Coleman Cup, for players with handicaps from 10-18, the winner was Barry West with a nett 71. Craig Collins was runner-up on nett 72 and Graham Dear took third place with a nett 73.
And in the Astor Trophy, open to players with handicaps from 19-28, victory went to Kevin Norton with a nett 71. Peter Bayliss was runner-up on nett 72, and James Robinson third with a nett 80.
