Lyle Taylor made an instant impact at The Valley. A clutch of goals, the focal point of the attack, a local lad who was very much the main man.
Taylor’s facial expressions during matches are a joy to behold, they tell just how much he cares.
But as well as the goals, his natural exuberance led to him picking up early yellow cards. His booking against Plymouth at The Valley on 22 September was his fourth of the season – one more and he will serve a one match suspension.
Thus far, Taylor has come through six games unscathed. He was, perhaps, fortunate to escape punishment at Rochdale though. A two footed lunge on the touchline in the second-half could have seen him in trouble.
Though he clearly won the ball, a different referee may have deemed the challenge reckless.
The winter amnesty on yellow cards kicks in after the 19th round of EFL matches. Following the postponement of the Portsmouth game, this will now be the game at Burton at the end of the month.
However, if Taylor is booked at Walsall on Tuesday, he would be suspended for the FA Cup match at Mansfield next Sunday – a game he may well be rested from anyway.
That aside, Taylor has to get through four more games – Doncaster (h), Walsall (a), Bristol Rovers (h) and Burton (a) – without picking up a yellow card to avoid an early suspension.
