The Wheelchair Rugby World Cup comes to Medway this summer and volunteers are now being recruited to help stage the event.
Some of the world’s toughest wheelchair athletes are bringing their talents to Medway Park in Gillingham from Wednesday, 3 to Saturday, 13 July. And with capacity crowds of 500 expected, Medway wants to provide a professional and friendly welcome for competitors and spectators alike.
Volunteers will be involved in ensuring the smooth running of training days and match days, operating scoreboards, working as timekeepers, helping with the organisation and preparation of the event, and ensuring spectators have a great time at the event.
In recognition of their contribution as a Medway Sporting Ambassador, volunteers will be given training and opportunities to develop their leadership and coaching skills through the Medway Coaching Academy.
Clare Lambert, 19, has previously volunteered at the Modern Pentathlon European Championships, the British Transplant Games, the Medway Mile and other community events in Medway, and has already signed up for the World Cup team. She said: “I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to do an event for anything. I absolutely love being an ambassador!”
Other volunteering opportunities are also available throughout this summer’s Medway Festival of Sport, where events range from large inter-school competitions to the new Medway 10km and the annual Medway Mile.
Anyone interested in taking part should email [email protected] or call 01634 338135 by Wednesday, 12 June.
No previous experience is necessary, as full training and kit will be provided.
