Jake Dixon became just the fourth British rider to stand on the top step of the podium at the British GP, with his Moto2 victory on Sunday.
It is a dream come true for Dixon as he wins his home Grand Prix in Moto 2 for the first time. It is his second consecutive podium finish, as he builds a successful second half of the season, with his first win of the 2024 season.
Winning a race is always special, but the feeling of winning at home is even greater. Today, in what was his sixth GP at Silverstone and in his 96th race in the World Championship, Jake Dixon has finally tasted victory at home.
It is the third victory of his Moto2 career, at the British GP, after a great overtake of Aron Canet on the last lap.
Dixon had started from fifth position and had been very strong in the first laps. On the second lap he was already in second place, behind the Spanish rider, who led all but one lap, the most important of all.
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider was patient and made the most of his moment at the start of the last lap. Both started the final lap separated by 108 thousandths of a second, which prompted Dixon to try the overtake that made the difference between a simple podium finish and glory.
The CFMOTO Inde Aspar rider was able to maintain the lead position until crossing the finish line, giving Canet no chance. By crossing the line in first it ended a nine-year streak without English victories at Silverstone, since Danny Kent won in Moto3 in 2015.
Speaking after the weekend, a delighted Dixon said: “It is a dream come true. Had they told me at the beginning of the weekend that I was going to win, I would not have believed it. I have fought for it, and today I knew I could do it.
“After last year’s disappointment, winning today is incredible. I am very happy. I have just waited for my moment. The team has done an amazing job, and I hope we can win many more races from now on.
“I believe in myself more and more. I did not have any doubts today, I knew I could put on a special show.”
