Early Pitching In Isthmian League South East Division pace-setters VCD Athletic have a tough challenge ahead of them this evening when they entertain East Grinstead Town.
Having won their first four league games, Nick Davis’ team’s run was ended in front of a sell-out crowd at Hastings United on Saturday.
However, VCD know that they have another tough match on their hands as the visitors are the only team left in the league who are still boasting a one hundred percent record and even though they have only played three matches, they sit in second place in the fledgling table.
After being dumped out of the F.A. Cup six-nil at Cray Valley PM on the opening day of the season, nobody would have foreseen the Vickers electrifying start to their league campaign.
They started with a two-one win against Whitehawk courtesy of a Malachi Hudson brace in the last five minutes then scored four times in each of their next three league games, winning at Whitstable Town (after again going behind), Three Bridges and at home to Chichester City in which they also conceded first.
East Grinstead are behind on league games due to cup successes in which they knocked out Phoenix Sports and Worthing before losing one nil at Chipstead.
In the league they have also been scoring highly with four-one victories away to Haywards Heath Town and at home to Ramsgate, and a three-nil victory at Ashford United on Saturday.
One of the players to watch out for in the East Grinstead side is Louie Theophanous who has scored a brace in every league game and one cup game on his way to nine goals in six matches so far this season.
