On Saturday, VCD Athletic take a break from their Southern Counties East Football League promotion chasing campaign when hosting Windsor and Eton in the Isuzu F.A. Vase.
Ross Baker and Danny Joy’s Vickers are top of the league table and have already worked their way through four rounds of the Vase. They started with a four-one victory at Westside in the first qualifying round with goals by George Whitelock and Wale Odedoyin, either side of a brace by Nathaniel Olawole.
In the second qualifying round, they were again on the road, winning three-nil at Chipstead. Whitelock again opened the scoring followed by two goals from Charlie Heatley.
That took them into the first round where it took penalties to see off Roffey after Ollie Freeman scored their goal in a one-all draw. Freeman then scored both goals in their two-nil home win against Arundel.
Their visitors from Berkshire started in the second qualifying round with a three-nil home win against Easington Sports. Pawel Kowallkowski was twice on target with Oliwier Bach also scoring. Bach notched two more in the first round with Ben Catt also on target in their three-one home win against Brook House.
They were at home once more in the second round and beat Hilltop five-nil. Kowallkowski again scored two along with goals by Sean McDonnell, Isaiah Chase-Kelly and Shaquille Johnson.
Although VCD play at a step in the Non-League pyramid that is higher than their guests, they cannot take anything for granted as Windsor are in very a strong position in the Combined Counties League Division One.
They are fourth in the table, having won sixteen and drawn one of their nineteen matches, and are only five points behind leaders Westside with a whopping seven games in hand.
