With two wins in their last three games behind them, Sittingbourne face a couple of away trips in the next few days as they continue their bid to break clear of the relegation zone in Bostik South East.
They go to VCD on Saturday and then head into Sussex on Tuesday evening to play Three Bridges in a rearranged match.
Both opponents won by their odd goal when they visited Sittingbourne this season so there’s some scores to settle.
But more important that that is picking up points to avoid finishing bottom of the league and dropping down a level.
That challenge is all the more harder as although Sittingbourne’s results and performances have improved dramatically recently, other teams around them are also picking up wins.
While Sittingbourne were fighting back to beat East Grinstead 2-1 last Saturday, both the other clubs around them at the foot of the league, Greenwich Borough and Herne Bay, were also winning.
They could easily drag teams above them into the battle, and that includes Tuesday’s opponents Three Bridges, who are only four points above Sittingbourne.
In the meantime, Sittingbourne travel to Crayford on Saturday to play a VCD side who have won one, lost one and drawn one since winning 2-1 at Woodstock last month.
That was the game in which 18-year-old Gillingham striker Roman Campbell made his debut for Sittingbourne on loan and celebrated by capping an impressive performance with a goal.
He was recalled by Gillingham last weekend and missed the East Grinstead game but hopes to be back to take on VCD’s tough defence this Saturday.
Manager Chris Lynch said: “We will need to turn up prepared mentally and physically and will need to hit the ground running.
“We will be in for a very exciting last 13 games of the season and as always the fans’ support is needed and appreciated.
“I think teams are now starting to fear us, and they have every reason to. In the second half last Saturday I saw heart, desire and determination which are the minimum standards of any of my teams. And we showed some real quality on the ball at times.”
Sittingbourne last played at VCD just over a year ago, in what turned out to be Nick Davis’s last away game as manager, and lost a disappointing match 3-1.
Their current squad includes a couple of popular ex-Sittingbourne players, Joe Denny and Jack Steventon, and their goalkeeper last Saturday was Jordan Beeney, whose dad Mark used to manage the Brickies.
