On Tuesday evening, VCD Athletic entertain Holmesdale in a first versus second placed Southern Counties East Football League match.
League leaders VCD have got off to a tremendous start to the season with eight wins and a draw in their nine games. They are also still in the F.A. Vase having progressed through the first and second qualifying rounds. Their only defeat has come in the F.A. Cup at Isthmian League South East AFC Croydon Athletic having won at Metropolitan Police one round earlier.
They visited Chipstead in the Vase on Saturday and enjoyed a three-nil win. After a goal-less first half, George Whitelock put them ahead before a brace by Charlie Heatley ensured that the Vickers could enjoy a comfortable last twenty minutes.
One place behind are Holmesdale however they are seven points behind having played two extra. They are the only club to have taken a point from Faversham this season, and have beaten Erith and Belvedere, the one team to draw with VCD. Their away form is good having won their last four on the road.
In their game on Saturday they drew at home with fellow promotion hopefuls Whitstable Town. Lewis Heywood-Oriogun put the Dale ahead three minutes before half time and Don MacAuley doubled their lead twelve minutes after the break. However, the Oystermen scored twice in the last fifteen minutes to share the points.
When the two teams met in Crayford last season, the Vickers won two-nil. Sadik Balarabe opened the scoring just after the half hour mark but they didn’t make the game safe until two minutes from time when Bethel Gboda netted.
