On Saturday, VCD Athletic entertain Bury Town at the Oakwood knowing that one more victory would guarantee them safety.
Whilst Bury are in a mid table position, safe from relegation but with no chance of reaching the play-offs, Vickers manager Keith McMahon will not be expecting the visitors to give them an easy ride. Sometimes, teams who are without pressure are able to play with more freedom.
Last Saturday, VCD went down 4-1 at Norwich United with Jeffrey Imudia scoring their consolation goal from Frankie Sinclair’s pass. Meanwhile Bury were beating Cheshunt 2-1.
When the two teams met back in October on a Tuesday evening at Ram Meadow. Greg Akpele put VCD ahead in the first half but Luke Read equalised two minutes after the break.
However, Connor Hogan restored the Vickers’ lead six minutes later and VCD left Suffolk with all three points.
After three consecutive home defeats, VCD have won two and drawn one so should have some confidence going into this game. Bury have one six on the road, but all were before the turn of the year.
They have not won away in their last nine games and picked up just two points in that run with their last victory recorded on Boxing Day.
It remains to be seen how McMahon reacts to last week’s defeat with his team selection, but he will be keen to ensure that they remain in the Ryman’s Division one set up ahead of their tricky trip to Tilbury on Monday and the final game of the season against third from bottom Ware.
