In a rather luck lustre first half it was vickers who controlled the played, although Bay did win ten corners.
Ronald Sobowale had Bay’s first opportunity but was denied a goal by a goal line clearance. Bay should have a penalty in the 24th minute when new signing Dan Birch was clearly pushed in the back, resulting in the ball striking his hand.
Instead of a penalty he received a booking for deliberate handball. Despite their dominance they had to wait until the 35th minute before Charlie McDonald gave VCD the lead. Bay lost possession midway in their own half. VCD broke away at pace, moving the ball swiftly up in to the box where McDonald placed the ball wide of Simon Overland.
Minutes earlier Overland had pulled off two great saves; the first from a header and then a fierce volley from 12 yards. It was Overland again three minutes from the end of the half saving at point blank range from Ali Fusieni. Raphe Brown almost scored his first goal for Bay but Vickers keeper, Matt Funnell, somehow managed to turn the ball around the upright with his foot.
Bay were much better in the second half but the hosts defended solidly. Sobowale had his goal bound effort cleared off the line and Danny Leonard’s fine volley was blocked. Bradley Schafer found space but his goal bound volley was brilliantly saved by Funnell. VCD were only threatening with breakaway counters and Bay were grateful to substitute Lewis Risk brilliant defensive tackle preventing McDonald from increasing the lead.
However Vickers did double the lead in the 87th when Fusieni who would have been given for offside but for Harry Miller who was recovering from an injury standing behind the goal was deemed to be in play. Fusieni fired an unstoppable volley into the top corner to seal the victory.
