Deal darts ace Ross Smith was unable to repeat his recent shock win over world number one Michael van Gerwen when the pair met again in the “Grand Slam of Darts” at Wolverhampton on Tuesday.
Ross, who defeated van Gerwen 6-5 in the European Championships in Germany last month, had to give “second best” to the Dutch master in their final Group A match at Wolverhampton.
Van Gerwen raced to a 5-2 victory to top the group while Smith’s defeat completed an unhappy four days at Wolverhampton for “Smudger”, who also lost his two other group matches, going down 5-2 to Adrian Lewis and 5-1 to Jim Williams.
