Up and down weekend for Heathcote
Up and down weekend for Heathcote

It was an up and down weekend for Nathan Heathcote at the latest round of the British Rallycross Championship, but it highlighted the talent that he has.Nathan Heathcote - Mondello - Rubberduck

For the first time since 2011 the British Rallycross championship made its return to the Irish home of Rallycross Mondello Park just outside of Dublin.

A bumper English and Irish entry for both the Saturday and Sunday promised the prospect of some Rallycross of truly epic proportions.

Putting the disappointment of round three behind him and taking the lessons learnt Heathcote put in a consistent performance during the heats, especially as it was a new track for him and the conditions were extremely dusty.

He managed to claim the fifth spot on the A-Final grid. After a good start he ran wide on the first corner loosing places eventually picking up seventh place.

Overnight rain slightly helped the dusty conditions of the previous day which suited Heathcote. He drove well in all the heats securing a first second and forth respectively.Nathan Heathcote - Mondello - Rubberduck 1

This was enough to secure outright pole position in the A-Final. His first this year, fate was to play its card yet again with the car experienced a mechanical problem on the dummy grid which would end Heathcote’s weekend prematurely before the start of the final.

Speaking after the weekend, Nathan said: “Had a quality weekends racing!  Was extremely happy to get my first pole position but a mechanical failure on the dummy grid meant I wasn’t able to start the A final, but looking forward to the next round.”

The championship now moves back east to Pembrey in Wales for round 6 on 26th July.
