Dan Livingstone didn’t expect to have such a good race weekend when he took to the track last time out in the Caterham Academy.
Having had such a bad weekend at Brands Hatch, the Rockingham race weekend and the form he showed came as a bit of a surprise to him, but a very welcome one.
Speaking to Kent Sports News after the race weekend, he said: “The Rockingham result was completely unexpected. Following the disappointment of Brands Hatch and the repair bill which followed, I unfortunately was in a position where I can’t really budget for any more damage this season.
“This put me on the back foot and meant that if there was a 50/50 move at Rockingham, I would have to pull out of the move to afford any further problems. So I went into the weekend hoping for a top 10 finish so to come away with second was amazing.”
Dan qualified for the race in fourth place and it showed that despite the issues at Brands Hatch that the repairs had paid off.
He added: “Following the test day on the Friday I knew that my pace was roughly there or there abouts. This gave me some confidence going into the race that I could hopefully mix it with the guys ahead.
“It was my first time at Rockingham on the Friday, as usual all the top guys had been to Rockingham before so I needed to pick up the circuit as quickly as possible.”
“I was absolutely over the moon with finishing second in the race, it was my best result of the season and felt even sweeter that it was unexpected. The race was quite eventful with the Pole sitter going off on the first corner which turned everything upside down. It was great to be part of this race and I really enjoyed myself out there.”
Whilst the result was unexpected for Dan it has clearly lifted his spirits for the Silverstone round of the Championship.
“This result gives me great confidence going forward and hopefully if everything goes to plan at Silverstone I can be pushing for the win. Silverstone is such a great circuit and I can’t wait to get out there.
“This whole season has been a bit of a shock for me really. Following winning the drive for this year via a Pistonheads.com competition, I never really expected to do so well. I set myself a pre-season target of trying to finish regularly in the Top 10 so I’m over the moon with the results so far.
“If you had told me at the start of the season that I would be fourth in the championship with a second, third and fourth place finishes I would’ve said no chance. I’ve been growing and developing my skills this year and hope that the journey can continue next year.”
With the season drawing to a close Dan is already looking ahead to next season and where he will be racing.
He said: “Unfortunately I won’t be racing in Caterham’s next year. I am currently looking at a couple of options and hoping to put together a full season campaign.
“As we all know Motorsport is very expensive but with a little bit of help I feel I can be on a grid next year. I am really looking forward to next year but first I am concentrating on the last race of the year at Silverstone and am hoping to finish the year in style.”
