Bradford have had a long run of success at home, and Valley Parade has been a real fortress for the Bantams. But they have stuttered recently.
Charlton won there last month, and their next home league game was not until this Saturday. It was a major shock that Stuart McCall’s side were beaten by bottom club Plymouth.
It was very much a smash and grab raid by the Pilgrims though. On loan Norwich keeper, Remi Matthews, saved a late penalty, and Bradford also hit the bar and had a shot cleared off the line.
Despite dominating possession and being on the front foot throughout, the Bantams could not cancel out Jake Jervis’ first half strike.
The result was enough to tip goal difference advantage in Charlton’s favour, and elevate the Addicks to third place in the table.
League leaders Shrewsbury face a tricky trip to Rotherham on Saturday, while strongly fancied Wigan entertain fourth placed Bradford.
Charlton will entertain Karl Robinson’s former club, MK Dons. If they win, and results elsewhere go in their favour, the Addicks could be within touching distance of the top come 5.00pm.
