Canterbury’s Ross Twyman is continuing to impress in the Dickies British Supersport series, despite not having the best of weekend’s at Brands Hatch.
As the season heads to Cadwell Park we caught up with Ross to get his thoughts on the summer round at his home track of Brands Hatch.
Speaking about the weekend, Ross said: “The weekend over all was good as we showed good race pace and were able to place fast times consistently, however with being clipped in race one and having nowhere to go in race three that was the disappointing part for me because I could show what pace we had.”
It shows the fine line that there is in bike racing, as a small mistake in qualifying saw Ross qualify outside the top ten as he explains.
“Qualifying wasn’t too bad but on my fastest lap I made a sizeable mistake which cost me therefore I started 12th, I got to turn two (Druids) and was hit by another rider and fell, it’s not the best I must say but it only makes me more determined for the next one. First laps are always manic unless you’re out the front!
“Race two I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, my team did an amazing job to get my bike rebuild and ready to go in two hours and there was no way I was going to have a bad race after they have worked so hard for me.”
In the previous race meeting, Ross showed that despite not having a great weekend he was able to net two solid finishes come race day.
He added: “Thruxton wasn’t the best of weekends but we had two solid finishes, my qualifying didn’t go to plan and we started on the back foot but made good progress through in both races. Our average position in every session is around 5/6th place and I know that is more than capable for me, the team and my teammates.”
With Cadwell Park upcoming we caught up with Ross to see how he was preparing for the race and his targets for the second half of the season.
He said: “Cadwell is in a couple of weeks and I know if everything goes ok we will have good pace and a good weekend to get ourselves back where we need to be after having a bit of bad luck for a while!
“My targets for the remainder of the year are to fight in the front group which we have shown and done before, as the championship is pretty much gone for me because of things not going right in the races I will be doing my best to be up the sharp end and work with my team to make the most of the remainder of 2016.”
