Centuries from Charlotte Edwards and Tammy Beaumont ensured Kent Women cruised to victory against Sussex at Arundel on Sunday.
The pair put on an astonishing 253 for the opening wicket as Kent posted 299 for 3 in their 50 overs with Sussex falling 82 runs short of their victory target.
Edwards was in scintilating form, smashing 151 from only 142 balls in an innings that included 22 boundaries, whilst Beaumont carried on her early season form with 107 from 129 balls with eleven boundaries.
The Royal London One-Day cup fixture, set in the picturesque ground at Arundel with the castle overlooking the cricket, was the latest clash between the two best sides in the country with Kent always in control.
Having won the toss and put Kent into bat, Sussex soon realised they were going to be watching Edwards and Beaumont batting for some time and the pair comfortably both passed three figures in their mammoth stand.
Lydia Greenway (15 not out) and Laura Marsh (12) chipped in towards the end of the innings as Kent went on to close on 299 for 3.
Sussex tried their best to keep up with the rate as Sarah Taylor (56) and Georgia Elwiss (92) took the attack the Kent bowlers, but were to lose wickets at regular intervals.
Erin Bermingham was to take 4 for 28, Laura Marsh 2 for 54 and Charlotte Pape chipped in with 2 for 29 as Kent were to secure victory by 82 runs.
The Kent womne’s side will now head to Sunday’s fixture against Nottinghamshire women at the Nevill Ground in Tunbridge Wells full of confidence. Play gets underway at 11am.
