On Saturday, Tunbridge Wells and Greenwich Borough compete in the final of the Macron SCEFL Challenge Cup at Welling United’s Park View Road ground.
Having been drawn out first, Wells get the use of the home dressing room whist Boro, who have already won the Kent Senior Trophy this season, will don their away kit.
Their most recent meeting was less than two weeks ago when the played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Culverden Stadium. Brendon Cass put the hosts ahead in the seventh minute however Paul Vines equalised for Greenwich two minutes later. Jamie Humphris then put the visitors ahead, a lead they took into the half time break.
Cass scored his, and his team’s second to level eight minutes into the second half but Vines scored his second to restore Boro’s lead midway through the second period. Chris Seenan scored the final goal of the evening to rescue a point for Wells with eight minutes remaining.
On Guy Fawkes Night, the two teams drew 1-1 at Princes Park. Vines’ brother Joe opened the scoring on that chilly evening just before half time but Dane Luchford equalised in front of a joyous visitors’ following twelve minutes from time.
Two tight league matches, and the fact that Greenwich finished fourth in the league with Tunbridge Wells just one place behind suggests another exciting encounter could be on the cards.
To get this far, Wells have beaten Cray Valley PM, Fisher, Deal Town and Beckenham Town.
Meanwhile Boro have seen off Lingfield, Rochester United, Lordswood and League Champions Phoenix Sports.
Supporters of Welling United may be interested to see some of their former players back on their old stamping ground. Borough’s squad includes Craig Holloway, Scott Kinch, Chris Saunders and Joe Vines whilst Wells have former Wings legend Paul Booth.
