Struggling Welling United make the long journey to Truro City on Saturday, still searching for their first victory of the season.
Following winning their first point of the season at East Thurrock, they again looked short of creativity when stumbling to a 1-0 defeat at home to St. Albans City on Saturday.
After the match, Mark Goldberg admitted that although they were conceding a high number of penalties, it was not the defence that was giving him the most problems. His bigger concern was the failure of his team to score goals and he hinted that one or two players may come in.
Goldberg admitted “We do need to make some changes. We will make some changes. We need to galvanize ourselves as a squad.”
However, players will have to go out on loan to keep the budget in line He added“ I’m not prepared to take a risk financially.”
He has attempted to remedy the situation by signing Adam Coombes, Dean Morgan and Lyle Della-Verde.
Coombes represented England at U16 and U17 level whilst an academy player at Chelsea and made his league debut on loan at Yeovil City. After being released, he signed for Notts County but only played six times before leaving in January 2016 and moving to Bromley.
Morgan is a 32 year old Montserrat international who has played for Reading, Luton Town, Crewe Alexandra, Southend United, MK Dons, Chesterfield, Oxford United, Woking, Italian side US Ancona and Newport County. His debut may have to be delayed for international clearance as his most recent club was Throttur FC in Iceland.
On Saturday, Truro City will be searching for their first home victory of the season with their sole success this season having come at Concord Rangers where they won 2-0. They picked up a good point with a 2-2 at Hampton & Richmond Borough last weekend. Their one home point was on the opening day of the season, which was another 2-2 draw, this time with Chelmsford City.
Defeats have come away to Gosport Borough (3-1) and at home to Bath City (also 3-1).
It’s the longest trip of the season, so the Welling players will want to return with a good result to show for their day out.
