Truro City 2-2 Welling United

On one of their longer away trips, Welling dropped two points when conceding a 95th minute equaliser.

Although Truro City have been ousted from their home city, and are now being forced to play their home games over one hundred miles away at Torquay United’s Plainmoor ground, it’s still a long away day to the Devon Riviera from North West Kent.

Manager Steve King changed his team and formation going for a 3-5-2 formation with Anthony Acheampong, Thierry Audel and Richard Orlu all starting at the back.

Just four minutes had passed when Welling had to make their first change. An injury to Jordan Gibbons meant that he had to go off and he was replaced by Charles Banya making his Wings’ league debut.

It looked as though his first appearance was going to be short-lived when almost immediately a shocking challenge by Austen Booth left him in a heap. Happily, after extensive treatment he was able to continue.

On fifteen minutes, Welling went ahead. Jack Jebb delivered a corner that was knocked on to Thierry Audel and he finished clinically at the far post.

Both teams had half chances, Billy Palfrey firing over from a tight angle for Truro, and Brendan Kiernan twice having shots deflected wide for Welling as the visitors finished the half strongly.

However, after the break, Welling lost their way a little as their passing went astray and Truro created a couple of opportunities.

First Ed Palmer flicked a Connor Riley- Lowe free kick beyond the far post and then Tyler Harvey directed Palfrey’s cross goal-wards but Daniel Wilks made an excellent reaction save.

At the other end Orlu had half chances, first when heading over from Jebb’s free kick, then when firing over after Acheampong had knocked a Jebb cross into his path.

Sixteen second half minutes had passed when Truro equalised. A long hopeful ball was misjudged by Wilks and he was pressed by Harvey. It came out to Niall Thompson and he hooked home from a tight angle.

Bradley Goldberg was introduced for Welling as both clubs made double changes and he restored the Wings’ lead soon afterwards. Kiernan crossed and he used his skill to divert it inside the far post.

From there, Welling were expected to hold on and neither team created chances until the fifth minute of injury time when Truro won a corner. It was hit deep and Jarod Lewington rose to head home unchallenged at the far post.

That was tough on Welling who again failed to turn their superiority into three points.
