Herne Bay Football Club have been left reeling in recent weeks over a crisis never seen before in Kent football…

Over the past couple of weeks, the Bay have suffered in Social Media circles leaving them to post the following on their official website before Saturday’s game at Whyteleafe following the departure of joint managers John Embery and Jermaine Darlington;

“The social media trolls have finally won the day. The management team have been hounded out of the club and as such the club are playing Whyteleafe with Anthony Deer taking the team.”

“Whether we will have a team to field next Saturday is in the lap of the footballing gods. Relegation back to the SCEFL looks to be inevitable. Whether there will be a club next season is unclear. The board have put so much effort over the years, but the past two weeks has become so demoralising.”

“These keyboard warriors who hide behind false titles post what they like without knowing the full facts, criticising the board and their decisions and it is these individuals who have destroyed this football club.”

“Hopefully we can all get behind and support Anthony for the remaining games.”

The rallying called on the field at least seemed to work very well, and the Bay won 2-0 at Church Road with goals either side of half time from Roland Sobowale and a penalty from Tahjae Anderson, leaves Herne Bay 16th in the table – seven points in front of Greenwich Borough who currently occupy the Division’s only relegation place.

What a timely win for everyone involved at Winches Field and it left KSN seeking clarification of the situation from the club. Football Editor Mike Green contacted long serving Club official and secretary John Bathurst for comment.

Mr Bathurst told us, “Saturday’s win has brought a buzz back to the club without doubt.”

He went on, “I would normally comment further but every time we say anything, we are shot to the ground by these trolls. The uncomfortable thing is you cannot win against these people.”

“Even today (Sunday) there has been one who is posting fake news all the time and is now trying to take the glory by believing that it is his posts that caused John and Jermaine to resign.”

“They are so egotistical and a total waste of space.”
