The young Kent driver immediately got into the swing of the North Yorkshire circuit having never raced there previously. With 355bhp on tap in the lightweight Ginetta G55 GT4 machine, throttle control was paramount in difficult conditions as rain fell through the practice sessions but Nathan continued to improve his times. Setting a ‘decent’ time with the fourth fastest lap in qualifying gave Nathan a good grid position for the first race.
Race one was held in the rain on Saturday but was red flagged for an incident, giving the drivers a short five lap sprint. At the restart Nathan controlled the ‘Am’ class, taking a deserved victory and holding off his nearest challenger.
With confidence high Nathan started Sunday’s races on the schedule as he finished the previous day. In the opening encounter he took the lead and looked set for victory number two of the weekend but he drifted wide in the closing stages, allowing Colin White to sneak inside him.
The final race of the weekend was held late on Sunday evening after rain delays had messed with the BTCC event schedule. Nathan was again looking strong after positioning into the class lead but unfortunately a simple ‘clip’ of the kerb sent him spinning out, losing several places. Annoyed with himself he set about regaining positions to fight back to third at the flag.
In the end Nathan’s scorecard was a triple podium of 1-2-3 giving him a 29 point lead in the series with the bonus of logging the fastest lap of the weekend in the ‘Am’ class.
Nathan explained, “It’s been a positive weekend as we learned yet another new track and the ever changing conditions meant adapting driving styles during the races which develops your skills. If I’m honest we probably should have taken three wins but a trio of podiums and a return to the top of the points standings is all good!”
