Trial and error for Addicks
Trial and error for Addicks

Thomas Sandgaard’s‎ bid to buy Charlton appears to be progressing smoothly and swiftly. Paul Elliott’s injunction seems the only obstacle preventing a rapid conclusion of the deal.

The Valley, and Cambridge’s Abbey Stadium have been selected as grounds to “trial” matches with spectators in attendance.

The Addicks are looking to play one of their September games in front of an audience of between 500 and 1,000.

Clubs will play three Saturday league games during the month, so they will be assured of at least one home game.

Moving forward, it seems unlikely that away fans will be admitted for some while. Possibly, travelling fans will be excluded all season.

Dependant on government social distancing regulations, capacities will be capped at between 10% and 25%.

How queueing at the catering outlets and for the toilets will be implemented, remains to be seen.

Though it will be great to be able to attend games again, the match day experience enjoyed by generations of fans will be very different.

In time, perhaps things will revert back to something approaching normality, but for the foreseeable future, those days have gone.
