Kent captain James Tredwell has been named in England’s 14 man squad for the One Day International series against Australia.
The Kent spinner is already named in the squad to face Australia in the two Twenty 20 internationals that take place this week and will now be the senior spinner in the squad for the five ODI’s.
Tredwell will also feature in the game against Ireland taking place at Malahide Cricket Club on Tuesday 3 September.
His inclusion in the T20 and ODI squads mean he will miss Kent’s County Championship fixtures against Glamorgan and Essex, whilst is expected to miss the four day game against Northamptonshire.
Tredwell should return from international duty to lead the Kent side for their final County Championship fixture of the season against Lancashire at Canterbury beginning on Tuesday 24th September.
Eoin Morgan will captain both England squads in the absence of Alastair Cook who is being rested following the recent 3-0 Investec Ashes series victory along with a number of other senior players- James Anderson, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann.
Pace bowlers Chris Jordan and Jamie Overton are both included in an England senior squad for the first time while Michael Carberry, Gary Ballance and Boyd Rankin will all be looking to make their international ODI debuts for England.
National selector, Geoff Miller, said: “Following a very intense period of cricket this summer we have decided to rest a number of senior players which will allow them to recover from a heavy workload over the last three months and to prepare for the tour of Australia which begins in eight weeks.”
“This creates an excellent opportunity for players who have impressed in county cricket and for England Lions recently to test themselves at international level as we continue to build a squad ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup which is less than 18 months away.”
“There are a number of very experienced one day players in the squad alongside players who are new to international cricket and we are expecting a very tough challenge both from a strong Ireland side and then from Australia in what will no doubt be a very competitive NatWest series.”
